WHAT WE DO

The word “true-blue” is used to describe something real. It’s about telling it like it is. And who better to tell students about careers than people living those careers.

True Blue Talks operates out of Mumbai. We got off the ground in April 2016 and have chosen the media industry as the first stop on our mission to provide real-world perspectives on careers. We conduct events in co-working spaces, community centres and colleges, limiting the audience to around 50 people.

  • A typical session last two hours, with the time equally divided between two professionals.

  • It's a conversation, not a lecture. We set the tone with an icebreaker which involves the speakers.

  • An interactive session comes next, with the speakers describing a typical day in their lives, using anecdotes and activities to share their journey, before students get their turn to quiz the speakers on everything from scope to salaries.

  • The last 15 minutes of each session is devoted to chai, coffee and networking.
  • This is where students can interact one-on-one with speakers and make a lasting impression.

OUR VISION

Students have a license to be confused, but we think there's something that can be done about it. And so our basic intention is to help them figure out what to do if they don't know what to do. We want to steer the ship for emerging talents, help them find their calling in the world outside the classroom and prepare them for taking that leap.

While the talks are one way of doing this, we've only just begun and there's plenty more in the pipeline. As we clear students' doubts about their future, we want to grow with them. For now, we're bringing voices from the real world to students. In time, we plan to take them to the real world by creating opportunities for hands-on experience so they can fully explore their interests.

While we currently host the talks ourselves, our grand plan is to empower educational institutions to take the reins and give students the guidance they deserve, as we move towards finding new and innovative ways to turn confusion into clarity.
